Scale inspections and record keeping
Commercial scales used in trade are inspected by your state, county, or provincial Weights & Measures authority. Inspectors test the device itself, and that authority — not ScaleRegistry — decides whether it complies. A record per device helps you keep track of its service and paperwork.
WHAT AN INSPECTOR TYPICALLY CHECKS
IS THE DEVICE APPROVEDLegal-for-trade devices carry a type approval — a Certificate of Conformance under NTEP in the United States, a Notice of Approval from Measurement Canada, or an OIML certificate internationally.
DOES IT STILL WEIGH CORRECTLYTested against the tolerances in NIST Handbook 44, which most states adopt into law.
WHO SERVICED ITMany states license or register the service companies that install, repair, or place devices into service; your state page links the official list.
THE SERVICE PAPERWORKWhere your jurisdiction asks for it: the last service or calibration report, when the work was done, and by whom.
HOW OFTEN
IT DEPENDS ON YOUR JURISDICTIONFrequency, fees, and who inspects vary by state and by device class — some jurisdictions inspect annually, others on a risk or complaint basis, and several delegate to registered service companies.
